This blog is titled Houseologie, afterall. I’m sure you’ve noticed a lot of silence around here with the exception of a couple house tours, recipe posts and now the one room challenge posts. Things are definitely HAPPENING around this Queen Anne Victorian but there is a LOT to do and that means work, work, work but not a lot of finished rooms or projects yet. I’m also a Mom & a wife. If you’re new around here, I have 3 kiddos (age 16, 14 & almost 9) and have been married for 16 years. I love my family and enjoy blogging, but it comes with a box full of hats to wear. I’m a very ALL-IN Type A person in general, so I try to keep up with ALL. THE. THINGS.
Even among the chaos, there’s always time to set a pretty table right?
Being open and honest, with all of the DIY and physical demands I definitely have pain some days, but I’m not going to let that stop me! I take Aleve Back & Muscle Pain because I refuse to be sidelined. Currently we have about a million balls in the air…..a half acre of property that has not been maintained well over the last 5 years, a makeover happening in the service stairs and a full-on demo taking place in our living room. Plus, my kiddos all started new schools in a new place. We’re taking it all in stride but some days the aches & pains become a little too much and you need some all day pain relief. My go-to store for Aleve is Walmart – one stop shop which is so convenient when you have so much going on. Aleve Back & Muscle Pain is now available at Walmart. Only Aleve offers up to 12 hours of pain relief in just 1 pill*. All Day Strong, All Day long. *Among leading OTC brands, based on minimum labelled dosing. Use as Directed.
Around the house outside, we’ve got about a million elm trees to cut down because they pop up everywhere when they’re not maintained. Fun times! We’re also pruning lilacs, roses and hedges that have some major overgrowth. Nothing like leaning over with the loppers for hours on end. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything. We’re in love with this property! Here’s the front of the house the day we closed on it. Note alllll of those Elms growing in front. If you look reallllyyy close you can see our historic registry plaques, but just barely!
And a little progress on a rainy day (which actually don’t happen very often here on the western slope of Colorado!) Lots of Elm tree removal and we are going to wait to pressure wash and paint the exterior next Spring. Always something jumping to the front of the DIY line. That’s life with any house, much less an old house like ours that needs lots of work.
You’ve seen the service stairs in video but here’s a few more shots. I’m doing a little board and batten treatment then painting the stairs, maybe a nice olive green. Then I plan on hanging some awesome art up one entire wall. This comes with a lot of bending over in a small awkward space. Can you say, tweak my back? Ha! But I get to use power tools and you know that’s my jam.
Also happening around the house, I’m committing to a 6 week room makeover challenge and taking on our living room. We have pulled down the drop ceiling, removed the tile and the huge craftsman fireplace surround, removed wallpaper and now I’m up to my eyeballs in hanging drywall and skim coating the existing plaster walls. I also, on a whim, started removing wallpaper n the entry/stair/hallway area. Nothing like going all in and starting multiple projects at once!
Of course, then there’s making dinner, cleaning house, writing posts, editing photos, staging things and the kids have ROTC, Homecoming, Book Fair (i.e. me volunteering!). Life is wild around here and I wouldn’t have it any other way, but I’m thankful that on the occasional tough days, I can take Aleve for my lower back and hip pain to power through and do all of the things I love!
This big house and this big LIFE are an incredible opportunity and I won’t ever back down from a challenge. Stick with me and eventually you’ll start seeing those projects and room makeovers you follow along for.
