Hey Hey!
Hope you are well and enjoying the last fleeting days of Summer. My kiddos have been back in school for 2 weeks and I am in full organization mode. So, when several of my blogging friends started talking about using wood crates for organizing, an idea was born. Why don’t we all buy the same crate from Michael’s Craft Store and see what we can all come up with?! Meet the ladies of The Great Crate Challenge:
You know the wood crates I’m talking about, right? They’re Plain Jane but super versatile!
So I grabbed 2 and used a 50% competitor coupon (YES! You can do that!!). Gotta love a good deal 🙂
I’m working on our entry way organization right now. Technically our front door opens right up into our living room but I have it set up so that there is a bit of an entryway, and there is a coat closet. This coat closet is a thorn in my side!! It’s always a mess!! There are usually shoes piled up a foot deep in the bottom. As a family of 5 we have a LOT of shoes :-/
So I decided to use my crates for SHOE STORAGE!! But they needed to be pretty, because everything is better when it’s pretty. I picked up two cans of Krylon Emerald Spray Paint and went to town on those suckers!
Then I hopped on over to my big box hardware store and about 8 small gold “L” Brackets, 2 oil rubbed bronze cup pulls and 8 casters. I couldn’t find gold pulls or casters, womp womp. I had some gold metallic acrylic paint on hand though, so I used that to paint the pulls and casters. Only time will tell if that paint holds up 😉
I screwed all of the hardware in using the provided screws. I had to add some scrap wood behind the pulls because the screws were way too long.
The closet is not finished yet but I can’t wait to show it to you when it is done. These Campaign Style wood crates are going to fit in perfectly!! I love how they turned out. They add just a bit of fun to an otherwise boring space. And they are so awesome for holding shoes. I put kid shoes in one and adult shoes in another.

BRILLIANT! I LOVE that you can just roll them out to grab your shoes! Plus, that green and gold … STUNNING!
That color! So pretty! This a perfect idea for shoe storage. I love the added details with the gold hardware. Definitely kicks it up a notch! I can’t wait to see your finished closet! Eeeeee!
What a perfect solution to shoe storage!!! I love the color and the gold looks great with it! I wanted to add pull handles to mine sooo bad (I even bought two different ones but none were big enough to cover the side handles). Adding them to the front is perfect! Good luck finishing your closet 🙂
Love it.
I’m such a fool for gold!!! OMG. Love the accents!! They play off the green so well! I can’t wait to see your closet!! 🙂
Oh my gosh, I looooove the gold accents! Gorgeous!!! Can’t wait to see the closet reveal!
The Emerald color is gorgeous and fits perfectly with the gold trim accents. Love everything! Perfect solution for shoe storage for sure.
LOVE that green with the pops of gold! That’s the best looking shoe holder I’ve ever seen. 🙂 Pinning!
I love the Emerald green and gold accents! Looks awesome!
This is fun! I love all of the ideas 🙂 Yours looks great…those little brass L’s are cute!
Leigh Anne this is gorgeous! I adore the green!!! Best idea for shoe storage – the casters make it so easy to use. Awesome!
LOVE the campaign style!! And love the casters. Great bold color!
I agree – everything is better when it’s prettier! That emerald green has such a “wow” factor which will be perfect to brighten up your closet space! The gold accents add that perfect touch of glam 🙂
What a fun idea! I love the green you picked out. I really enjoying creating things with the unfinished wood products I find at the craft store, too.
Visiting from TT&J link up party!
I’m LOVING this gold and green – what a fun way to use a crate! It’d be great for toy storage 🙂

I have a long(ugly) crate in the back of my pantry, my liquor is stored in. Now I can jazz it up and put it out front, for every one to see! Love this idea. Thanks.
