You get it? Like Black & White (my favorite) except Light? Hmmm. Maybe that’s not as self-explanatory as I first thought…
Anyway, we haven’t had much snow this year but it’s been cold and overcast, even rainy, most of the last 2 months. When I started this Laundry + Craft Room makeover I didn’t realize how much the weather was going to hinder my plan! But it has. *womp, womp*. With that said, I need you to ignore a lot of ugly in these pictures. Makeover IN PROGRESS.
I decided to take the blind down and paint the window mullions black. This is probably, hands down, my favorite thing to do in a space. It instantly changes things in a white room and I just LOVE it! So much drama.
As the title of this posts suggests, I also bought a new fixture, so bye bye boob light!! This gorgeous school house light was under $30 on HomeDepot.com with FREE shipping to my local store. Heck yes!!
The only problem was that I didn’t like the nickel finish on the base. That was an easy fix though!
I just roughed up the surface with sandpaper, covered the wiring and socket with newspaper, wiped it clean and spray painted it. I used a $6 can of Rustoleum Satin Black spray paint meant for several surfaces including metal. It turned out better than I thought it would! If you try this just make sure you do very light coats. In total I think I sprayed 4 coats VERY LIGHTLY.
So that’s where I’m at right now. I have a lot of work to do in this room still but if you look close you can see a sneak peek of another project I’m working on. (Hint: it’s that chippy looking door you see in a few of these shots!).
I’m also working on this door, original to our 1950’s house. I absolutely LOVE it (even though it’s in pretty bad shape) but haven’t decided what I’m going to do to the glass yet. I’d like the outside door to go but I haven’t quite got my husband on board with that idea yet. These things take time 😉
There’s some cabinetry that’s getting a makeover too! It’s a lot of work and it’s going SUPER slow because, well LIFE. Just keepin’ it real 🙂
Mandi of Vintage Revivals says that black window trim is like “mascara for your windows!” So true 🙂
Mandi is my favorite!! I agree with her 100%. When I painted the window mullions in my hallway I got my inspiration from her!
That original door is gorgeous!!! I would think there’d be some beautiful wood underneath if you stripped it. That and changing out the glass to a vintage florentine for more privacy would be gorgeous 🙂
Isn’t the door great? I’m already stripping another door and it’s kind of a nightmare so this one will be painted. But I’m brainstorming something to do to the glass for privacy. Love the vintage florentine idea.
LOVE the new black my friend!!! That window is looking so classically sophisticated now!!!
Thank you Kristi!
I love the look of the black mullions! (Didn’t know that’s what it was called, so thank you!) The progress looks great. I understand things taking time so absolutely no judgement here!
Thanks Corinna! Everything definitely seems to be moving in slow motion with this makeover. That’s life sometimes, I guess LOL
