Modern Victorian meets Modern Traditional Style

Hey friends! I shared in my last post that I’m leaning toward Modern Victorian style in our new house but as with any style evolution, there are growing pains until you fall into the sweet spot. I LOVE Modern Victorian style but I also love the simpler Modern Traditional style I’ve been seeing a lot of lately. I’m just wondering if there’s possibility in Modern Victorian meets Modern Traditional style?

I’ve spent hours scouring Pinterest, Instagram and Google learning about both of these styles and the way I’d like our home to look and feel. I am in love with both styles and can’t wait to bring beautiful decor to this house in my own unique way. I thought I’d share some inspiration highlighting some of the modern victorian AND modern traditional inspiration I’ve been swooning over.

The two style are very different so who knows how this will turn out?! I’m just figuring this all out, ya know? I’m still a lover of minimal, neutral design. This is why Modern Traditional appeals to me. It’s minimal, functional, simple and easy. And my favorite, it leans toward a Scandinavian vibe that y’all know I love. But the fact is, I live in a Queen Anne Victorian house, while on the less fancy side, still has a lot of those design details that make Modern Victorian design possible. Soooooo…..what’s an amateur designer to do?! I’m leaning toward a mashup and this could be an epic fail but there’s no fun to be had in playing it safe so here we go…..!!

 Modern Victorian Inspiration

Modern Victorian is all about velvet, tufting, fringe, ton-on-tone, dark florals, statement walls and curated collections. Emily Henderson wrote an amazing group of posts about this style and she says it way better than I ever will.

There is certainly modern design in all of these rooms, but also excessive Victorian era trim, lots of velvet and my favorite the rich moody colors.

Modern Traditional Inspiration

Modern Traditional style is sort a minimal farmhouse with modern touches thrown in. Calm white on whites, soft edges with an antique handmade, no-fuss feel thrown in. It’s soft and easy and functional. Gah! It’s gorgeous.

OK OK that’s probably enough for one post! I can’t wait to get started on figuring out how I’m going to incorporate both of these amazing style in our home. Just trying to decide which room to start on first. I’d like to start small so I’m thinking about a bathroom, the service stairs or possibly my Master closet. Don’t want to bite off more than I can chew. As if 15 different wallpapers that need to be removed isn’t a mouthful? Ahhhh well, one day at a time.

What do you think about the Modern Victorian style? How about Modern Traditional?  I know it’s very different from what you’ve seen from me in the past! But there are some similarities too!!  Let me know what you think in the comments below and don’t forget to follow me on social!!
