Hey Hey friends!! You know what time it is, MDC (Monthly DIY Challenge) time. If you’re new around here this is the one time a month (the 2nd Wednesday of every month) that several of my blog friends and I come together to bring you some amazing projects!! Every month we choose one item and we all take a spin with it. This month’s challenge item was canvas so I chose to make some minimal canvas art.
Be sure to check out all of the other projects below!!
Minimal Canvas Art
I knew I wanted to do something a little “out of the box” for this project so I turned my blank canvas around and around trying to figure it out. I loved the raw wood on the back so I decided to go with that and make this minimal canvas art. It was SOOO simple that I barely have a tutorial for y’all today.
First, I painted around all of the outer edges with black chalk paint. This DecoArt Chalky Finish paint is my FAVE and the little container lasts forever when using for small projects.
Once that dries you want to print our your mountains. I used these from Oh Happy Day!
I printed out two sheets, cut them out then used Mod Podge (seriously, this stuff is like the 8th wonder of the world. I swear I could use it on EVERYTHING!!) to glue the mountains to my canvas so that it looks like the images are being mirrored. Then I also went over the top of the printed mountains to make sure they stay put and it gave them a little more texture.
Let it dry then hang and admire! This art takes NO TIME to make!! I was done in less than an hour and that includes dry time. Can’t do better than that.
This is seriously genius! I love how your mind works. I would have never thought to turn the canvas around! Love it!
Thank you sweet Sarah!
SO creative Leigh Anne! And I absolutely love how this turned out! You know me and mountains 😉
Those mountains are pretty dreamy 🙂
I can’t even believe what I am looking at, this is fantastic! I NEVER would have thought to use the back of a canvas, so clever!
Thanks Katie!!

I like to think I know how to think outside the box. That raw wood had me at hello 😉 Thanks for stopping by!!
I’m seriously loving this art. The back of the canvas idea is brilliant and those MOUNTAINS. Be still, my heart! Love loving the modern vibe and also love that it took no time at all!
Thanks Erica!!

Thank You Alexis!! I can’t stop looking at it every time I come up the stairs!!
It’s beautiful! I thought “she’s missed a step” – where’s the bit where you add the line in the middle, then I went back a re-read carefully and realised you used the back on the canvas – how clever, love it!
HA! Thanks for reading Julie!
Such an interesting idea to put your artwork on the back side of a canvas. Thanks for inspiration 🙂
