Hey Hey!! It’s the 2nd Wednesday of the month!! If you’ve been a Houseologie reader for a while you already know it’s Monthly DIY Challenge time!! If you’re new around these parts, Monthly DIY Challenge is when I get together with several of my best bloggy buds and we choose an item to complete a DIY project with. This month we’re STENCILING!! Fun!!!
Royal Design Studio was nice enough to sponsor our challenge this month. If you’re not familiar with them they sell an amazing assortment of stencils, wall decals, etc. I chose this Flamingo stencil for the bathroom wall that is between the bathroom and closet.
After finishing my closet makeover last week, I knew it was time to move out into my Master bathroom too. I can’t show y’all the ENTIRE bathroom yet, because it’s not finished. But stick around, I’ll be posting more it over the next couple of weeks. For now you get to see JUST the stenciled wall.
How to Stencil Your Bathroom Walls
First, I taped the stencil in the corner at the top of my wall, using painters tape. I used a foam roller to roll the white flamingos onto the wall. For the gold legs I used a foam brush to paint those on.
The stencil is made with register marks so as you make progress you knew exactly where to line it up.
It’s a fairly simple, straightforward process. Just be very careful to not have too much paint on your roller. You will get frustrated if you overload your roller. Also, I was using latex paint, and on the first pass I let my stencil stay on too long and the paint dried. When I pulled the stencil off it peels some paint up. You don’t want to do that. So work as fast as you can while still being careful, and remove the stencil as soon as possible.
I LOVE my flamingo wall!! I am so glad I only did one wall, I think all of them may have been overload. BUt I like how this wall adds a little quirkiness to my bathroom.
Do you plan on stenciling anything soon? Make sure to check out all of the other stencil projects below!!
