I know I’m not alone when I look at other people’s homes, and think “wow, it’s perfect!”. But the truth is MOST homes are not perfect. Unless you have unlimited resources, everyone has things in their home that aren’t quite right for their family’s needs. Even if you build your home custom, most people don’t have an endless supply of money to sink into it. You compromise on things then live with it. Because of this, I wanted to start a series called “How I Make It Work” where I feature some of my own doves that aren’t ideal, but I make it work for my family the best way possible. In this series I’ll also have guest features from other bloggers who also make their spaces in their homes work for them. I truly believe with a little creativity and a little work, you can love your home even with all of its imperfections!
Most of you know, I live in a fairly large (nearly 3k square feet) Queen Anne Victorian. But trust me, it’s OLD, over 120 years old. It needs a lot of work and some of the spaces don’t make a lot of sense in terms of 21st century living haha! For example, the “front room” which is the first room on the right when you walk into our front door, has no lighting. ZERO. ZILCH.
The back door that opens up into our kitchen from where our detached garage is….has no place to put things. The kitchen is laid out so weird! You have to carry dirty dishes from one area, across the room to the dishwasher. But hey, I’m thankful I even have a dishwasher!
I don’t say all of this to sound ungrateful, exactly the opposite! I’m so appreciative and marvel every day that I get to live in this insanely cool, historic home. But sometimes I have to make it work for us in creative ways such as doing a garage door installation and getting an EV charger by one of the most popular EV Charger Installations like this EV charger installation in Ashwaubenon, WI for our current detached garage. In addition, other electrical needs like residential Power Restoration, rewiring, etc. should also be prioritized, which stretches me and makes me use my creativity! I know you can do the same thing in your home whether you own, rent or even currently despise your home.
So stay tuned for tomorrow’s post where I show you exactly what I mean by turning an unused (but really neat!) spot in our home into a useful and gorgeous space that works for my family now!
