Hey Hey! I’m loving the approach of the Holiday Season. Thanksgiving & Christmas are my favorite holidays! I usually try to get a jump on decorating before the mad rush of the season hits so that it is just one less thing to do on my list. Plus, more time to actually enjoy my cozy, decorated house when the time comes.
I haven’t quite started yet this year, so these will all be pictures from last year before I started this awesome blog journey! I’ll be sure to include new photos of it once I share our Christmas decor this year.
I made this Advent Calendar for our mantle last year and I will be using it again this year. It was really easy but makes a big impact. I used brown paper bags for a rustic Farmhouse feel. I used a Gold Sharpie Paint Pen to draw some cute arrows on each bag for a little touch of fun Glam. I used index cards we had laying around and sprayed them with chalk paint then wrote each number on them with the gold paint pen.
I found the little clothespins in the Target dollar Spot (also known as Heaven π ) and used them to hold the bags onto twine that I also found in the dollar spot. I fill each bag with a little treat for my 3 kids. Some days have candy but most of the days have erasers, knick knacks, etc. Each bag also has one activity for us to do that day. I found a ton of great ideas on Pinterest. Some of our days have involved projects, outings, traditions we do every year, crafts and so on. I try to incorporate things we would be doing anyway so that it doesn’t get too hard to actually follow through.
And if I’m being honest, I had to switch days around while my kiddos weren’t looking. Such is life, it gets a little out of control sometimes.
I hung the calendar from command strips and stuck a bow in the middle. I really do love it! This project was pre-blog so I don’t have a lot of process pictures but it’s super easy. This is also before I painted the fireplace and rearranged the gallery wall.
(The above picture is after Santa came and accidentally made a mess with all of his magic π )
Do you make an Advent Calendar every year? Do you use the same one every year? Any special traditions your family likes to do?
