Hey y’all!! I’m pretty excited about this DIY upholstered kid’d folding chair. There is just nothing better than taking something that doesn’t work for your own home (and in some cases is just plain ugly!) and making is beautiful. That was the case with this kid’s chair that most of you probably have one or two of in your home. For my chair it was remnant Marimekko Kanteleen Kutsu upholstery fabric left over from my 5 year olds bedroom wall makeover to the rescue! If you’re new around here, be sure to check that out!!

How To Upholster a Kid’s Folding Chair
We’re not into sports and blue just isn’t a color for this bedroom. I knew this little chair could make such a statement though!! So what I did was take off the two little pieces, one that makes up the seat and one that makes up the back rest. They are just screwed on with 6 screws total and really easy to remove. Then I took the chair frame outside and sprayed it with two light coats of Gold Metallic spray paint. I always use this brand and I’ve had great luck with it!
Back inside I took those two unscrewed pieces and laid them down on my fabric to measure how much I would need. I didn’t even remove the ugly blue sports theme covering. Remember, this is remnant fabric from the wall. Remnants are so versatile, you can do many, many things with small pieces of leftover fabric. I loved this print so much I needed to use it in another spot!
After I had the fabric cut to size I just folded it up over the sides of the square seat piece and stapled it down. On the corners just kind of fold those in like you’re wrapping a present and pull tight so that the rounded corner doesn’t pucker on you, then hit it with your staple gun. I used a regular old manual heavy duty stapler like this one. Do the same thing for the back piece then screw each piece back into the chair frame.
Marvel at the transformation of your transformation DIY kid’s upholstered folding chair!! My Sophia couldn’t believe it was the same chair when she came home from Kindergarten!!! More UPDATES from my sweet little girl’s bedroom in a week or so!
Love it! I have a table and 2 chairs. Will transform for a 1 year old toddler. Thanks!
Yay! Hope they turn out great!!
Leigh Anne this is the cutest kids chair makeover ever! I visited your daughter’s room reveal (gorgeous!) from Blogtalk and then I had to visit this post to see the chair “before.” Would you mind if I featured this on my 2nd blog – DIY Furniture Makeovers? (http://diyfurnituremakeovers.com) Let me know – thanks! 🙂
Hi Jen!! Thanks and of course you are welcome to feature the chair on DIY Furniture Makeovers!!
Could you tell me where this chair is from? I’ve seen a few really cute folding chair makeovers, but when I got to find similar chairs to buy, I’m coming up short. I particularly like the backrest shape of this chair…HELP!
This one was given to me by a friend. I’ve seen them at dollar stores and Walmart though. Sometimes they come in a set of 2 chairs and a table. Thrift stores might be a good place to look too!
