I had a plain white pair of $10 IKEA curtains hanging in my dining room. Very boring, especially with all of the other white in the room. I decided to jazz them up with a little green and gold paint!
I was going for an Ikat feel but my lines are too crisp for that. They are definitely imperfect and I love that. Not too bad for my first time painting on fabric. I used a sample pot of green that I got with a free coupon from Lowe’s and some gold Decoart craft paint from Jo-Ann’s .
I just taped off a design. I wasn’t too perfect with it, I just wanted something easy and imperfect. Then I used a small paint brush to paint the fabric. I did add a fabric medium to the paint so that the curtains wouldn’t be too stiff. After 24 hours I heat set the paint so that the curtains would be fully washable.
This is a super easy and cheap way to make boring curtains fabulous! Not bad for a buck fifty, since I already had the curtains, the green paint was free and I paid $1.50 for the gold paint 🙂 Decorating your home does NOT have to be expensive. Use what ya got! Anyone can pull this off! I can’t wait to try it again. The dining room is really coming along and I like the direction it’s headed in. It’s different than what I set out for but I like for a room to evolve slowly 🙂

Thanks You! Curtains add so much warmth & softness to a room and painted curtains are so easy & cheap!
I Love this idea but I’m really new to the DIY world and I don’t know how to heat set or what a fabric medium is. I was wondering if I could get a little more detail?
I can’t find the right curtains for my living room anywhere–I’m thinking I need to paint some! Thanks for linking up at on display thursdays 🙂
