I’m almost ready to reveal the Hallway Makeover! Today I’m sharing just one piece of that puzzle 😉
We have a little wall niche between two bedroom doors in our upstairs hallway. It used to have a phone jack in it. We don’t even have a land line (we use our cells exclusively) so I ripped it out and filled the holes with wood filler. Then I repainted it semi-gloss white like the rest of the trim upstairs.
I wanted it to be a pretty spot but I couldn’t really sit anything in it because the kids or the cats would likely knock it down in two seconds. I finally decided to make this mini hanging planter. I originally wanted to make a large hanging planter to hang over by the window but thought this would be more fun.
I had the round wood bowl (plus 3 more) lying around from a flea market trip in Nags Head, NC. I love them! I buy them anytime I see them. I’d love to have some larger wood bowls too. I then lucked out and found the square bowl for $3 at Home Goods. Wahoo!
It’s a pretty easy DIY, just takes a little patience (which is usually all I have). You can find lots of macrame/hanging planter tutorials on the net so I won’t go into details. I did adjust my lengths since this is a small planter compared to others. I used cotton rope I found at Lowe’s. I added some succulents but need to go pick up a few more since the bowls aren’t quite full enough. I hung them with a little golf cup hook.
Keep checking back this week for a few more DIY’s in the space! And here’s a sneak peak of the hallway makeover. You can see how I painted the window mullions black. Wow, remember those brown walls? So glad they’re GONE GONE GONE!
Whatcha working on this week? Relaxing? That’s what I will be doing NEXT week. What do you think of hanging planters? Too trendy? Too 70’s? I kinda love them! Have a good day!!
GREAT IDEA !!!
I’m going to try this out. I’ll send you a picture.
” Loving your post ” Keep them coming!
Thanks! Definitely send me a picture! You can do it with pretty much any container, just adjust the size and amount of rope you use 🙂
How cool! I love that you chose to hang something in the space rather than put a picture. It’s a genius use of the space! Definitely brings more interest. And your hallway is looking amazing. Love the windows! I can’t wait to see the final reveal!
Thanks Sarah!
I have 2 wall niches in our home too and it took me forever to figure out what to put in them! Love this idea!! Thanks for sharing at Monday Funday link party! Pinning! ~ Heather

This is adorable! I have a nook like that but it currently houses a stuffy old vase. This would be such an improvement!
I’d love it if you’d share this post at tomorrow’s Family Fun Friday at Happyandblessedhome.com

Thanks Aimee!!
This looks so great! I love the idea of hanging the plants out of reach of kiddos or pets. My kids are old enough now to leave things alone, but our dog isn’t and loves to get into things!
I love how you sparked up that blank space like that. It looks great and the bowls are fabulous – I’d want to pass by there as often as I could. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Karen, I certainly am in love with the space!
What a great idea! Your hallway looks beautiful. I love the crisp wall color!
