We’ve been working hard in our main level bathroom. If you didn’t see the original post with the before photos and our big plans, you can pop over and read that first. You’d think with a super small space, it wouldn’t be much work but we hit so many snags! We’re moving right along with this bathroom remodel though. Here’s the before to refresh your memory:
And here is the big plan for the finished bathroom remodel:
I managed to take SOME demo pics but not many. We were so focused we sort of forgot and we were DIRTY. Ew.
The tile demo went so easily on the two walls to the right of the doorway. You can see that wall below. The tiles came off easily. You can also see the new sheetrock installed in that photo which is the wall the toilet sits on. The wall that you see unfinished will have cedar shiplap on it like we have above our fireplace in the living room so there was no need to put finishing touches on it.

However, the shower tiles and the sink wall tiles were laid in plaster and lathe. YIKES! It took some serious muscle and if I’m being honest, questioning allll my decisions that led me to this point, to get the stuff out. We’re behind schedule and that’s why! Once we got to the floor tile demo it didn’t go much better. It took hours and hours of hammer and chisel to get it out. Whew! But we finally got it all demo’d then we installed the new standing shower insert. It’s 3 individual panels because one big piece wouldn’t fit through the door of this teensy space. It’s less than 30 square feet! Gross photos below and I apologize, this bathroom has ZERO natural light because it’s located in the center of our house on the main level.
All the sheet rock walls are up, which was actually pretty easy to do! Mudding was, well, hard on my Type A, OCD personality. It turned out pretty good but not perfect. I’m okay with that. We’re total newbs at this so perfection is nowhere to be found in this space but we’re thrilled with the way it’s coming together.
Once the sheetrock was up we started on the floor prep for this AMAZING tile from Build Direct to be installed!! It’s the ANT TILE triangle porcelain mosaic. When I saw it, I fell in love! And BuildDirect was so kind to send me the tile for this space. It’s going to be so perfect on the floor in here. And guess what?! It’s on SALE right now!!
My teenage son uses this bathroom for showering but everyone else, including company, uses the restroom in here. We’re stoked to get it finished before Thanksgiving so our guests don’t have to run upstairs to use the restroom. I’m hoping to share allll the floor prep and tile details next week. And just so we don’t end with all of those ugly pictures in your mind, here’s where we are headed in this DIY bathroom remodel. Hover over the photo for sources!
You are a brave woman…and so talented, too! Beautiful choices..I’m looking forward to seeing the end results. Thx for sharing!
