Hey Hey! First, just let me say, if you’re the type of person who can paint windows shut and leave them like that for years, we cannot be friends. Ever. Also, if you paint window mullions and leave the paint on the window panes for the next homeowners to deal with, I will curse the day you were born. On to the black window mullions.
(You can see the finished Hallway Makeover here)
As I said in my last Design Trend post, I’m really digging black window mullions. I decided to paint the mullions in the upstairs hallway. I do love it! It was such an easy transformation. I still have paint to scrap off. That much be the most annoying task EVER. The bad thing is these are old wood lift windows and the previous owners, ahem, painted the outside mullions too. So, there is white paint showing through from both sides on the glass. Grrrr. I’m obviously not over it:-)
My pictures are not great to begin with but trying to photograph a window makes them even worse. This was the best I could do. I’ll get better. Growth, it’s all about growth.
I already had the black paint on hand from our dining room ( Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black color matched at Lowe’s to Valspar Primer + Paint) . I cleaned the window with Mrs. Meyers, Basil in case you’re wondering. It’s my favorite!
Then I just taped the windows off and went for it. I figured it’s just paint, so if I hate it it’s fairly easy to reverse. But I don’t hate it I LOVE it. I don’t want all of our windows like this but I will likely do this to our kitchen windows when the time comes. More window scraping is in my future. Be jealous 🙂
I had this cute little helper. She liked vacuuming the dry paint flakes off the floor. I think we’ll keep her.
This hallway still has a LOOOOONG way to go. The walls are still brown, I can’t decide if I want them white because, three kids equals lots of dirt. The stairs start in the dining room down stairs so the stair wall faces the dining room. I thin it’d be weird to have it some other color besides black or white, like the dining room. Help me?! I’m lost. I’d like to do a wall treatment on the window wall right here. I have all of the materials for what I want to do, just gotta get on it. The curtains (from Ikea) need to be raised or taken down entirely (I’m leaning toward that). That Curio is a thorn in my side but also sentimental to me. I was all ready to chalk paint that sucker but haven’t been able to pull the trigger yet. Hmmm.
Thoughts on black window mullions? It’s kind of a love it or hate it deal. Sprucing any small spaces in your house? Leave a comment and let me know, I’d love to hear from you! Also, if you don’t want to miss a post, go over to the right sidebar and subscribe to get my post right in your email inbox!

I’m not a fan of black muntins (they are not millions btw) but your windows are beautiful.
Thanks!
I love them and just painted the outside of my windows black and added grids. Was trying to decide if I wanted to do the inside too and you just sold me. Thanks for giving me more to do!! 😉
Yours look amazing!
