I knew we needed a bit of a command center in our house for reminders and organization. I can be a bit forgetful and flake out every now and then. I try hard not to but with 3 kids, housework, appointments, meetings and blogging, it can get out of hand quickly.
I hoarded a crib end from when my now almost 5 year old daughter was a baby. She’s been in a twin bed now for almost three years. I just knew this crib end could be something awesome! It came from one of those convertible beds with the dresser attached at the end, but her room is too small for a full size bed so we saved what we could and got rid of the rest.
Here’s what I came up with:

The crib ends had holes from screws on each side of it. So I used wood filler to fill those, sanded it down then hit it with several thin coats of semi-gloss white spray paint (for plastics since this had a laminate finish on it).
On one side I added cork. I used this roll and it is a little thin for what I wanted but it’ll work just fine for us. I just measured, drew a straight line and cut it out to size. (With Kindergartener scissors because we can never locate grown-up scissors) then I hot glued it into place.
On the other side I wanted a clear dry erase board. I glued up some Scrapbook paper and then had Lowe’s cut some acrylic plexiglass to size and mounted it on top of the paper. I used Command picture hangers to do that. I think white dry erase board just looks boring and after a lot of use it gets grungy looking. I got this plexiglass idea from the genius Allison at Two Thirty-Five Designs.
I really love how it turned out! I know this will keep us more organized once my kiddos are back in school. This year all three of my kids will be in school since my youngest starts PreK. We are so excited and about 40 other emotions. I feel all the feels!!
What are you doing to get ready for Back-2-School time? Are you excited for the kids to get back in a routine or do you want an endless summer? I gotta say, I’ve enjoyed Summer and now I’m ready for them to get back to school.
Leigh Anne, this might be my favorite project of yours yet! I LOVE IT!!! How genius to use the crib end. It is so beautiful and will be such an asset in your organization efforts. This is a great blog hop!
Thanks Bre!!
Leigh Anne, your creativity and imagination astound me! Who the heck would think to turn a crib end into such a functional organization piece? It looks like something you’d see at Pottery Barn. So cute! And I am crushing on your stapler, btw. Now where am I going to find a crib end…….
Thanks you Sarah!! You’re the best! I have the other end, which is almost identical to this one. I’ll just mail it to ya 😉
Oh, and I got that stapler basically free at Staples! (It’s Abigael’s for school, she’s 12)
Oh my gosh! I LOVE this Leigh Anne! And SUCH a brilliant idea to make your own super cute tacks! How funny that we both made some washi tape clothes pins too!!!
Thanks Kristi!! It is funny that we both made the clothespins!
Love this! Wish isn’t a surprise, since I love everything you do!! The wood slice pushpins are awesome!!!

THanks!! I’m glad you like it, and please copy me, it inflates my ego 😉
Great idea. I think I need one of these in my craft room. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
One of these would be great in the craft room!
That is so cute. I love how it turned out, and I really REAALLY need something like this. There is so many things to remember and keep in order when kids are in school. I have o clue how I will keep it all together when I have three in Elementary school. Luckily I have a few more years before that happens. One is enough for now in school.
I have one in 7th, 5th and PreK now. Three different schools!! It’s gonna be a fun year 😉
This is so cute! Very creative! Love it!
