Today I’m trying to weed through all of my Pinterest boards. My boards need to be named better and organized more efficiently. Plus, I’m scraping paint off window panes. Sounds like a fun day, no? If you aren’t following me on Pinterest already you can click the Pinterest button at the top of my right sidebar to do that.
I thought I’d share some good tips & tricks I’ve found for organizing your Pinterest boards. With all of the AMAZING inspiration on Pinterest, it can get out of hand pretty quickly. Fortunately, Pinterest has made some helpful changes such as alerting you when you Double Pin something. There is still room for improvement on their end but until then here are some things you can do yourself.
1. Name your boards something easy for you and others to find. After all, the whole point of Pinterest is to give and receive great ideas. {INSPIRATION}Ā You want your boards to be found easily so don’t name them something cutesy. I’m so guilty of this because I started Pinterest as an individual but now I have a “business” account. Look at me now!!! š Be as specific as you can with your board names. I hate losing stuff and Pins are no exception. I will stay up way past my bedtime looking for a misplaced Pin. Don’t be like me.
2. Place your boards in alphabetical order, by popularity or some other order in which there is rhyme or reason. This is easy to do. You just click the board you want to move and drag it to the place you want it to be in. Quick and Painless.
3. Make subcategories. If you have a board with a wide range of possibilities, making subcategories for that board will help you in the long run. For example: I have a DIY board that holds the majority of my pins because I’m really into that sort of thing. But I could make a few subcategories like “DIY – Wall Art, DIY – Lighting, DIY – Rmodeling, etc. You get the idea.
4. Be descriptive. I know sometimes you see a Pin that just completely BLOWS YOUR MIND. You quickly pin it and type “Ahhhhh, I can’t even. I love this MORE THAN LIFE” I get it. Pinterest is awesome. But, typing a more descriptive sentence will help you and everyone else find things later.
5. Create covers for your boards. This is the step I’m most excited about! Once you’ve got everything organized, edited and in it’s right place make a good cover for each board. This will make finding boards even easier. Pinterest will automatically make a board cover for you but they are easy to change. You just go to the board and click “change cover” and scroll through to find the perfect picture. BUT WAIT! You can take this up another notch and make these cute PinterestĀ board covers for your boards. Seriously, how awesome is she for showing us how to do this! She uses PicMonkey which is a free, easy-to-use photo editing site.
I’m super psyched to go get my Pinterest board organized! Have you started out being organized on Pinterest or does your account need a little Spring Cleaning like mine?
As a fellow Pinterest junkie, I know just how out of hand Pinterest boards can get. Thanks for the really helpful Pinterest organization tips.
Thanks for sharing (and for linking up to the SHINE Blog Hop).
Wishing you a lovely day.

Love all these ideas!!! I went on you pinterest to get ideas on how to keep mine organized and clean. I didn’t know you could move them around to put them in alphabetical order. I am going to work on my pinterest boards today!!! Thanks for the inspiration!
You’re welcome Kersandra! Have fun organizing!
I am a Pinterest Junkie!!!! I was so glad to see your post. I am also a computer nerd. If my radio wasn’t digital I couldn’t tune it!! How do you make the sub-categories?? new to your blog but loved what I saw.
Thanks for stopping by Beverley! You just make your own subcategory boards. For example: instead of one FOOD board create several SUB boards like sweet breakfast, savory breakfast, lunch, grilling, quick dinner, etc. This makes its much easier to find what you are looking for when you go back for a breakfast recipe (or any other pin). You can see examples on my Pinterest (Follow me please!) and see the board covers I made here: http://www.pinterest.com/houseologie/
Great tips! I can’t wait to do my boards covers!
