You ready for some more hallway makeover goodness?! I wanted a rug for the top of our stairs/hallway but didn’t really want a runner. I also didn’t want to spend a fortune on a rug. I stumbled upon these little rag rugs at a local grocery store for $1 each and inspiration struck. If you’re planning to own a grocery store, then here are some tips on Why You Should Consider Licensing with Save A Lot, which can be very helpful in the long run!
I purchased four and then I used black thread I had on hand, quadrupled, to sew each of the four rugs together. Embroidery thread would work too but I didn’t want to purchase anything else or get out of my pajamas to go to the store again on a Sunday evening 😉 Then I used some leftover cotton twine from my DIY Mini Hanging Planter to make tassels for each end of the rug. You can find lots of easy tassel tutorials online. So fun and easy to make. I made mine while watching a couple episodes of Justified. Anyone else watch this show? Me and my hubby are obsessed with it. We are binge watching!
Anyway…I just sewed two rugs together, then the other two together, then I sewed those two to the other two. Clear as mud? Then I just looped a piece of twine through the top of each tassel and then tied it to the ends of the rug. Easy peasy! I had to trim the end pieces in the middle so the rug would lay flat. It’s still a little lumpy but I’m certain it will flatten out over time.
I really love the way it looks up here in the hallway. And you really can’t beat a rug for $4!! A few more finishing touches on the hallway and I’ll be ready to show you the whole space! Check back Friday for the REVEAL 🙂
Such a great idea to combine 4 rugs into 1! The stripes are perfect, the tassels are perfect, this is perfect. Great job!
Great idea and savings to make this yourself.I like the added tassels for the finishing touch.
